Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center and Presence Resurrection Medical Center Receive American Heart Association Accreditation for Acute Cardiac Care
Chicago, Ill (August 28, 2013) — Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center and Presence Resurrection Medical Center have achieved the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® Bronze Receiving Award. The award recognizes hospitals across the nation for excellence in quality care of STEMI heart attack patients based on data submitted to the ACTION Registry-Get with the Guidelines.
In a STEMI, the more severe type of heart attack, the coronary artery is completely blocked off by the blood clot, and as a result, virtually all the heart muscle being supplied by the affected artery starts to die.
“We are thoroughly committed to providing our patients the highest quality cardiac care centered on current scientific research,” said David Bordo, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center and Presence Resurrection Medical Center. “The American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® Bronze Receiving Award highlights our accomplishments and will improve the overall treatment and care for our patients.”
The American Heart Association’s overall goal for Mission: Lifeline® Heart Attack Receiving Center Accreditation is to significantly reduce cardiac death in patients by teaching the public to recognize and react to early symptoms of a heart attack, reduce the time it takes to receive life-saving treatment, and increase the accuracy and effectiveness of treatment administered.

About the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline®
Each year, hundreds of thousands of Americans have a type of heart attack known as ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), in which blood flow is completely blocked to a portion of the heart. Unless the blockage is eliminated quickly, the patient’s health and life are at serious risk. The American Heart Association launched Mission: Lifeline® in 2007 to improve systems of care for patients suffering from STEMI by eliminating the obstacles that keep patients from accessing and receiving appropriate treatment. The program was created to assist communities nationwide in streamlining their systems of care to help heart attack patients go from the first 911 call to in-hospital treatment faster.
